Are you from an Outdated Period?

Girl, lady and women are the three words that emphasize human beings who run with increased levels of progesterone, estrogen and probably a little testosterone.

They are an image of grace and a derivative of mankind, who give back their best creation to the nature.

However, I feel that they often contradict their identity, loosing a sense of respect, responsibility and hinder the pathway of the word that needs to be heard by our society.

Before I could begin menstruating in Grade 7, my neighbour told me about her classmate who shared about the dates of her periods with her boyfriend.

Furthermore, she felt disgusted on hearing about her classmate and called it an unusual practice, she began mocking her classmate which left me numb.

I wondered how it felt when a flower would bloom, it’s petals facing towards the yellow rays of the sun embracing it’s gift of fertility, giving mankind it’s creation just as a girl, a lady and a women bleeds through her fertile womb for the fruit she bears in her bed of fertility through the metronome of pain and joy.

I am proud  to have a small community where my father, brothers, male teachers and boy-friends care about a women who menstruates, perhaps they do not find it disgusting to touch, search or buy sanitary pads, they take conscious efforts of tracking a girl, a lady and a women’s periods;  to battle every element while the women dwindles herself to be fertile.

These deeds will someday grow to spread a word through our world we are blanketed in and to the world we encounter.

Where pharmacist and vendors do not wrap sanitary pads in newspapers, where women can openly share about their periods, where men build a land to voice out their care for menstruation just like Padman did.

This will void the image of bribe, patriarchy and male dominance in our society, where men and women trail on a culture of open mindedness and reach it out to the unheard by generating awareness.

HUMANITY will stretch it’s hands towards a land of EQUALITY when you and I will take a step ahead.
